The Permanent Observer Mission of the Holy See to the United Nations issued a statement on migration at the 46th session of the Commission on Population and Development, April 24, 2013. The Holy See in its statement notes that “situations of unsustainable socioeconomic insecurity and poverty” are driving “more and more individuals, families and entire communities … to leave their homes and families in the hopes of a more secure future in different countries and communities,” while millions of others “every year are constrained to abandon their lands … out of threat of war, humanitarian crisis, civil unrest and famine in order to survive.” The Apostolic Nuncio and Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations is the Most Reverend Francis Chullikatt. The statement is available on the Mission's website.
